Artist Statement

Most of my creative concerns revolve around the questioning of representation itself – how we perceive and why do we frame or comprehend something in a certain manner. The idea of ‘framing’ thus became of a particular appeal to me, and I took an interest in the ways we look at images/pictures. I like the double meaning of the word frame, which could suggest (as a noun) something laced around an image or idea to beautify, glorify and decorate. Frame as a noun made the image within almost passive, accepting and unquestioning On the other hand, frame (as a verb) is like a noun coming alive, the image/object within which was previously framed, now in a role of a persecutor, questioning why they were associated with meanings they cannot undo.

As such, in this query of framing, my curiosity also extends to the survey of the means of representation, the process of meaning-association and a questioning of information collection/construction.

To articulate these above mentioned ideas, the works have taken on various mediums and forms, from painting, mixed media and photography to object making, and more recently expressed in the forms of paper folding, text and audience workshops, which requires some elements of interactivity and participation.
